It’s December and the pickings are slim
I always say that I am not going to have new year’s resolution but I am going to try and blog more.
All in all, my experiment went well this summer. I only bought local vegetables between my farm share and an amazing farmer’s market. It wasn’t overly expensive and it all tasted great. We had strawberries into December which was unbelievable but I know that it had to do with our enviable location more than anything.
But the rains have hit and today’s farmer’s market pickings were much slimmer. Last week was better so it is possible that it may have to do with the holidays as half of the stands were missing. Our vegetable bin currently contains lettuce (surprisingly still available), celery, and carrots. There is also a tomato but I didn’t buy it.
Today’s salad contain the above mentioned vegetables and peas that came from the freezer. There is much concern about what we are going to eat. I froze lots of green beans and broccoli when we had a lot from the community supported farm share so we’ll eat those. I think carrots will be available throughout the winter. I wish everyone would eat kale without complaining but that is too much to hope for! We also have a very hard squash (kobacha) that is almost impossible to cut and a cabbage.
Let’s see how we do next week. This week’s dinners will involve the rest of the salad and what’s in the freezer. I have plans for a tofu and cabbage dish which should go over well.
